The Edge DERMS powered by best-in-class technology

The EnergyHub platform employs state-of-the-art algorithms to deliver reliable flexibility at every level of the grid.

Dynamic Load Shaping

Our Dynamic Load Shaping technology enables utilities to precisely shape load during flexibility events. This functionality builds on multiple advanced DER management features within the EnergyHub platform.

Firm Load Dispatch®

Utilities often experience declining load shed during standard thermostat demand response (DR) events, leading to sloping load shapes. EnergyHub’s Firm Load Dispatch® (FLD) algorithm delivers an approximately flat load shape over the course of multi-hour DR events by organizing devices into groups and creating optimal dispatch schedules.

Packetized Energy®

EnergyHub acquired Packetized Energy and its packetized energy management technology in 2021. We use this technology to improve our platform’s DER management algorithms and enhance our ability to dynamically shape the net load from VPPs (sometimes known as Virtual Batteries) for multiple utility objectives.

Managed charging

EnergyHub uses advanced optimization algorithms to generate charging schedules for electric vehicles (EVs) that simultaneously solve for multiple objectives, including:

  • Ensuring customers get the level of charge they need
  • Limiting aggregated loads to avoid overloading stressed grid assets
  • Minimizing costs for both EV owners and grid managers

Forecasting

Our platform uses a range data to forecast both the future load from groups of DERs (a load forecast), and also the net load reduction capacity that can be achieved by calling demand response events from a given group (a capacity forecast). The forecasting engine draws on historical data to build models that can generate forecasts.

Advanced baselines

EnergyHub’s platform provides utilities with multiple baseline options, which are used in our DR event performance analytics. Users may select standard Independent System Operator (ISO) baseline algorithms, such as PJM Customer Baseline (CBL), or EnergyHub’s custom baseline algorithms for thermostat and electric vehicle aggregations. Our proprietary baseline algorithms tend to produce more reliable counterfactual estimates and performance reports.
