Tell us about your career journey and what led you to EnergyHub.
I worked in healthcare administration for a couple of years, doing a lot of social work. But over time, I felt I needed to go back to my passion – the environment. During COVID, I had time to evaluate what I wanted to do and how to return to my passion. My roommate recommended pursuing data science, and the fellowship I was part of led to an internship with EnergyHub and now a full-time job and eventual promotion to a full-time role as a Software Engineer.
How would you explain what you do at EnergyHub?
In all seriousness, I think of ourselves as superheroes. We are all guided by the mission to do good for the environment, and I use my skills in software to help utilities deliver energy in a sustainable way to their customers and make sure we have enough resources for the future.
How do you contribute to the fight against climate change in your role?
As part of the engineering team, more specifically, the data team, we extract data and demonstrate to utilities the value and the impact we’re making with customer-owned devices. Providing that insight means we’re providing real-time analysis of how our programs provide reliable energy, which is a huge contribution toward clean energy.
What’s the most exciting part of working at EnergyHub?
Seeing how excited everyone is to be where we are – it’s contagious! There’s a lot of togetherness in all that we do, and that carries through whether you’re exclusively remote or decide to come into the office.
What advice would you give job-seekers who want to contribute to climate change?
Find a place that shares your values. I noticed pretty quickly when I started my internship that on top of sharing my values, EnergyHub welcomed my professional goals.
